Petroleum Systems and Exploration Geochemistry
Description:
This course explores the fundamental concepts and techniques used in understanding petroleum systems and their exploration. Participants will gain insights into hydrocarbon generation, migration, and accumulation, along with evaluating source rocks for their potential to generate hydrocarbons. The course also delves into exploration geochemistry methods, such as surface geochemical exploration, geochemical logs, and oil-source rock correlation. It covers the preservation and destruction of hydrocarbon accumulations, including biodegradation and water washing. Finally, participants will learn about reservoir geochemistry, including the use of biomarkers, isotopes, and chemometrics for gas and oil fingerprinting, as well as production allocation strategies.
